Day 3

It's really amazing how great I've been feeling so early on in this trial. Each day, I literally feel like I'm gaining more and more energy!

1:00PM
-Green Choco-Banana Smoothie w/cacao nibs-

5 md. Banana (frozen)      525 cal
2 Stalks Kale                    40 cal
1/2 Cup Water
2 1/2 Cup Ice (cubed)
4 Tbsp. Cacao Powder       96 cal
2 Tbsp. Cacao Nibs           65 cal

                          Total     726 cal

This is becoming pretty standard for the start of my day. It usually satisfies my chocolate urge right from the start, and because it's usually so large, it keeps me fueled for the first few hours of the day no problem. This one was even bigger than yesterday, making just about 1.25 liters or 3 glasses full. The first two went down in 30 minutes, but I didn't get around to finishing up the last one until 2:30PM.

5:00PM
-Snack-

~1/4 Cup Goji Berries    100 cal

Just grabbed a handful of Goji's while out and about doing some much needed grocery shopping. *See picture at the end of post for what I bought.

6:30PM
-Green Banana Apple Smoothie w/cucumber & apple chips-

4 md. Banana                      420 cal
1 Stalk Kale                          15 cal
2 1/2 Cups Baby Romaine      15 cal
1 sm. Apple                          77 cal
1/2 Cup Water
2 Cup Ice (cubed)

1 Cucumber (sliced)               30 cal
1/2 md. Apple (sliced)            38 cal

                               Total     595 cal

Now I know these green smoothies look pretty bland and boring, especially when displayed next to green cucumbers - it probably looks like torture to someone who's not familiar with them. Maybe it's the plain bowls/glasses I have them in or the bland environments I'm photographing them in. In reality, there exists SO much flavor in the smoothies themselves, and the usual cucumber just seems to compliment them perfect, providing that nice "crunch" most of the smoothies lack. This smoothie in particular houses an interesting texture that I can only describe as applesauce-like. And the flavor is immaculate! This one was BIG - 1.5 liters, which made 3 glasses. Again, I got two down with the cucumber and extra apple slices within 30 minutes, but didn't get around to the last glass until about 8:00PM.

9:15PM
-Snack-
1 md. Banana     105 cal

11:30
-Green Banana Strawberry Smoothie-

4 md. Banana                420 cal
10 Strawberries               60 cal
1/8 Cup Grapes               35 cal
2 Cups Baby Romaine     15 cal
1 Cup Mixed Greens         7 cal
1/2 Cup Water
2 Cups Ice (cubed)

1 Cucumber                    30 cal
                        Total     567 cal

This one actually looks a little more interesting than a plain green smoothie, but that's because I topped it with some of what was inside of it (strawberries) and some grapes I realized I had tucked away in the fridge. This made another whopping 1.5 liters, or 3 glasses, where, again, I finished two in about 30 minutes. Got around to the last one at about 1:00AM. Maybe you're thinking I should make less smoothie, but it helps to make a good amount all at once. First, you need the calories, also it saves time in the long run, and last, it really is enjoyable to return to that earlier flavor you had. It's like when you normally eat anything. Naturally, if you really like the taste of it, you either overeat and are too full, or you eat what you think you should, but because it's a more calorie dense food and not an actual large mass of food, you keep craving more. In the case of the smoothies, you KNOW you are full so you stop, but you do still crave it. When your stomach frees up that room (about 45 minutes - 1 hour for bananas to digest), you're fine to have some more without the ill effects of too much.

1:30PM
-Bananas, Raisins, & Sundflower Seeds-

2 md. Banana (sliced)          210 cal
2 Tbsp. Raisins                     73 cal
3 Tbsp. Pumpkin Seeds       120 cal

                              Total     403 cal

I followed the last glass of the previous smoothie with this nicely filling mix of fruit and seeds. Since I still hadn't exercised yet and I really wanted something to chew, this was perfect snack to give me that extra energy boost.

-Exercise-
Since my calf was still sore, I just did some nice stretching for it, as well as stretches and exercises for my arms, back and abdominal.

The numbers seem to be right on target here with regards to the 80/10/10 model here. A bit more protein would be ideal, but this is looking like the best day thus far.

Overall, today was magnificent. I hope more go as smoothly as today! I really am looking forward to the each day more and more!

*Now, as mentioned earlier, what I bought at the store today!

Here we have 26 containers of organic greens total for a total of 10.5 lbs., accompanied by approximately 25 lbs. of bananas. Got everything on the reduced rack for a GREAT deal! I had really been running low on my RAW goodies, so this shopping spree should keep me supplied well for quite sometime, at least for my green smoothies. Now the bananas won't last me too long, but the greens should last a while. I'm going to end up freezing about half of them (and sharing a few with my wonderful girlfriend). Note hat twhen you freeze the greens and defrost them, they will get soggy. When you're throwing them in smoothies though, it doesn't really mater.

That concludes Day 3!
